Circular cooperation for the future

Three of Havklynga's member companies work closely together to make their products more sustainable and attractive for the future aquaculture industry.

"If we are to be the future suppliers to aquaculture and other industries, we must be ahead of the curve." That's what Roger Erlandsen, CEO of GSG. The company, which specializes in plastic welding and plastics, has entered into a partnership with both Seacloud and Arges where being future-oriented is an absolute focus.

It began with a desire from Seacloud to create a product that was as environmentally friendly and recyclable as possible. GSG could supply the container itself for Seacloud's electronics, but in order to make a recyclable product, Arges had to step in. Arges turns discarded plastic products into pellets that can be used to make new products. GSG sends scraps from their plastic welding, from pipes and sheets, sent to Arges in bulk. These are then converted into pellets that can be turned into new pipes and plates that GSG welds together. For the future, the plastic on Seacloud's products will also be converted into pellets and other plastic products. In this way, the customers of both GSG and Seacloud know that the products they buy are sustainable.

The reuse of plastic creates a circular economy that will become more and more important in the future. Erlandsen points out that the process is not economically profitable as of today, but oil, from which plastic is made, is not a renewable resource in itself. We must therefore develop the technology to make it as renewable as possible, before there is a demand for it from higher up. Bjørnar Bull from Arges says that their customers are more and more concerned that their suppliers can offer environmentally sound solutions. Sustainable solutions are one of the most important competitive advantages of both the present and the future.
